The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest living rainforest in the world, and the Kaku Yulanji people have been living within this environment for thousands of years.
This unique tour will demonstrate Daintree at its best, whilst you learn of this area’s rich Aboriginal culture and history, combined with enriching guided rainforest walks and spectacular Niau Falls. It truly is a magical day out!
What makes it Great?
Your naturalist driver and guide will first meet you at your accommodation with pickups starting at around 7:30 am. The early morning drive to Daintree is very scenic, especially from Cairns to Port Douglas, which is dubbed as one of the most beautiful coastal drives in Australia.
Once arriving at Cooya Beach, a little beachside residence 10 minutes north of Port Douglas, it is time to get native, as you join the Kubirri Warra brothers of Kuku Yulanji Cultural Habitat Tours.
Walk with Linc and Brendan Walker on one of their beach, mudflat and mangrove walks, where you will learn how to throw a spear, hunt traditionally by stalking, and observing wildlife and country ad how to track coastal resources. If lucky, brothers may even catch a stingray, a mud crab or two or collect local mussels, which they will then cook up for you to try!
If local bush tucker is not your idea of morning tea, then freshly made damper, and tea and coffee, may better acquire to your taste! This is served at Cooya Beach, whist as the brothers bring out different artefacts and tools and explain their uses and traditional importance.
Next stop is the charming Daintree Village, which is nestled on the banks of the mighty Daintree River. A quick drive through the sleepy town, before continuing to spectacular Niau Falls at Tranquillity on Daintree, a secluded private property of 450 acres. The Niau Falls are a pristine natural wonder waiting for you to discover.
You will see strange, primitive plants and learn about the original settler family and hear about the incredible story of survival. Your guided rainforest walk will unlock the secrets of this fascinating eco-system.
Have a picnic lunch amongst the rainforest with Niau Falls in the background, there is plenty of time for a refreshing swim so don’t forget your swimmers!
After a mesmerising day, it is time to depart, where on your return; you can spend time in at the seaside township of Port Douglas. As your amazing day of discovery comes to a close you will return back to your accommodation.
