Reef Encounter offers comfortable cabins as well as staterooms with double or twin beds, ensuites and large picture windows in the staterooms. All staterooms are located on levels one and two of the Reef Encounter. The lounge/dining room contains all dining room facilities, a fully licensed bar and a relaxing lounge area with television and video/DVD facilities. This area is ideal to relax and socialise with the other guests after another perfect day aboard Reef Encounter. Delicious gourmet meals are prepared on board by chefs and served to your table in the dining area. The fully equipped dive-deck is situated at the stern end of the vessel while towards the bow is an idyllic heated spa. Level One is a fabulous deck and is used primarily to accommodate the Top Deck Club clientele.
Top Deck Club is designed to meet the expectations of the most discerning of guests, offering an unhurried, relaxed ambience. Luxurious touches such as crisp Australian bed linen, silk doona, cotton sheets and feather down pillows adorn our oversized double beds. Soft fluffy robes, plush bath sheets and Australian beauty products are replenished daily.

The Reef Encounter caters for divers of all levels of experience with a variety of diving options to choose from, all catered to your specific needs.
Certified Divers are well looked after with more reefs, more variety and less divers. All Certified diving includes mask, snorkel & fins, weights, tanks, refills, BC, and regulator.
Introductory diving is also offered and no experience is necessary. Try a FREE 10 minute Scuba Diving Lesson.
Snorkellers will experience the fun and exhiliration of snorkelling above and amidst the beautiful array of coral and marine life on this trip. To assist you with your every need, the professional crew can assist you with snorkelling briefs and instruction as well as fully guided tours.
The large easy access hydraulic platform allows people who are disabled or with limited mobility to easily enter the water and take part in the days activities.
Outer Reef Locations:The Reef Encounter offers overnight or extended dive and snorkel expeditions to the Great Barrier Reef, cruising to spectacular Reef locations.
Michaelmas Reef
Located 40 kms off Cairns, offers shallow coral reefs, and a dazzling array of exotic marine life including Giant Clams over 100 years old.
Snorkelling at Norman Reef is among the best in the world. Each of our sites at Norman Reef situates you perfectly for shallow observation from the moment you hop off the boat. In the shallow sandy patches of Norman Reef live garden moray eels. It's easy to understand why these beautiful creatures choose to live in the midst of stag horn thickets with rich coral cover.
Frank is our resident Napolean Maori Wrasse is a very friendly local attention seeker and will happily swim around snorkellers and introduce them to his coral home.
Diving:
Scuba divers can explore underwater canyons bursting full of schooling fish such as oriental sweetlips, swim throughs where the light penetrates ideally for silhouette photographs and caves where you’ll discover natures awe inspiring architecture and day dwelling night animals.
Advanced scuba divers will enjoy depths of up to 30 metres (100 feet).
There are many sites that we visit along Norman Reef and each has a variety of attractions on offer. Ski Slopes Mooring – (a shallow ‘horse shoe shaped’ sandy bay walled by coral which slopes gradually down to over 30 meters), Caves Mooring, Fingers Mooring (where walls of reef jut out like the fingers on a human hand, with shallow reef and colourful soft corals at the base and deeper drop offs along the tips), Playground Mooring and the Wild Side Mooring.
Night Dives: Much of the best night diving on the reef happens at Norman Reef. Divers encounter lively lobsters, schools of giant trevally and grey whaler sharks at night. For those not jumping in the water at night, spectate from the side of the boat and view white tip reef sharks and red bass circling below.
58 kms off Cairns, lies 10 sq. kms of colourful coral gardens. Famous for Tame Friendly Reef Sharks, finally the Giant Wrasse, and thousands of tropical fish.
An exciting fact for Reef Experience guests is that Breaking Patches is a breeding ground for the common green turtle and hawksbill turtles alike. Sea Christmas tree worms, anemone, clownfish and butterflyfish are spread throughout the plethora of plate and fan coral which make up the majority of the shallowest Breaking Patches areas. There are swim throughs and over hangs that lead right down to the sandy floor where explorers will find sea cucumbers eating their way around.
Transfers:
The Reef Encounter is permanently moored on the Great Barrier Reef. Transfers and returns to Reef Encounter are conducted daily via Reef Experience. Click here for more info
