Tours of Undara range from a two-hour Lava Tube or Wildlife experience to a full day out. Savannah Guides conduct tours of the tubes that provide a rewarding and educational experience.

There are several types of Lava Tube tours that are designed to suit the time you have available, your interests and also your budget.

Lost World Adventure
The tour begins with a walk around the rim of Kalkani crater where the collapsed line of the lava tube is highly visible and the vast scope of the tube system is most evident. Each section of the lava tubes has its own story to tell, and you’ll see it all. Morning & afternoon tea are served in the bush, and your buffet lunch presented at Undara Experience.

• Enjoy a full 8 hours in Undara Volcanic National Park
• Visits Kalkani Crater and up to 7 sections of lava tube
• Moderate fitness level – some rough walking, some climbing
• Includes buffet lunch at Undara Experience and morning and afternoon tea in the National Park

Departures: 8.00am from Undara Lodge reception 01 May to 30 September. Wed, Sat & Sun only.

Volcano Valley
Discover this fascinating underground geological phenomenon, enjoy home-style refreshments, climb a rocky bluff  or Kalkani Crater to get an above ground perspective and learn more about the region’s ecology.

• Allow 4 hours to complete
• Moderate fitness level - boardwalks, some unlevel walking, short uneven climb
• Visits a rocky bluff or Kalkani Crater & up to 4 sections of lava tube
• Includes Morning or afternoon tea

Departures: 8am and 1pm from Undara Lodge reception from April to October.

The Active Explorer
The ultimate introduction to the Undara Lava Tubes for the young and young at heart! The most fun you will have exploring these fascinating phenomena!

• Allow 2 hours to complete
• Visits up to 3 sections of lava tube
• Moderate fitness level – uneven surfaces, some climbing over rocks

Departures: Departs Reception 8:00am and 1:00pm May – September. 10:30am and 3:30pm tours operate subject to availability May – September

Wildlife at Sunset Tour
Sunset watch and photograph a variety of local native animals, including wallabies, kangaroos, lizards and birds, before enjoying a cold drink and local produce as the sun sets. Learn about the local landmarks, plains and distant ranges. As dusk settles, travel to Barker’s Cave to witness literally thousands of micro bats leave to feed for the night.

This once in a lifetime nature experience runs all year but is at its spectacular best in the Green Season (December - March) when you can see many species of Pythons and Brown Tree Snakes strike out to capture a meal as the bats emerge!
The bat emergence coincides with the annual breeding of the micro bats, whilst bats emerge nightly all year round the bats and snake numbers are at their highest during the Green Season.

• Easy fitness level – boardwalks, steps and a short uneven climb
• Includes refreshments and fruit and cheese platter

Departures: Approx 5pm - 6pm (according to time of sunset) from Undara Lodge reception, year round.

The Archway Explorer
An excellent concentrated visit to the lava tubes, plus other interesting environmental, geological and historical features pointed out and explained on the trip to and from the tubes.

• Allow 2 hours to complete
• Easy fitness level - boardwalks, steps (approx 270)
• Visits up to 3 sections of lava tube

Departures: Daily at 8.00am and 1.00pm all year round from Undara Lodge reception. 10.30am and 3.30pm between May to October.

What to bring:
All tours are conducted in air-conditioned vehicles with highly trained and award winning Savannah Guides who enjoy sharing the Gulf Savannah and Undara with you. It is important that all passengers wear enclosed footwear, and hats are strongly recommended. Bring your camera, as photos are welcomed, and a torch is also a great idea.

International guests may borrow a synopsis of the tour in German, French, Italian or Japanese, and there is also a written English version available for those with hearing difficulties.

Mobility Impaired
Approx 1 ½ hour tour of Road Cave which acts as a fantastic introduction to the Undara Lava Tube system on boardwalks with ramp access and a chair-lift available.
This tour is subject to availability and at least 72 hours notice is required. Please note that our Savannah Guides are not trained carers and therefore
are not responsible for the general assistance, supervision or lifting and carrying of mobility impaired guests. Our vehicles are not equipped with
wheelchair ramps or lifts; however the tour start point is accessible by conventional vehicles.
