The Cairns Discovery Package is a value option allowing those on a tight budget to experience the best of the region and have an ample amount of time to enjoy Cairns.

This package combines a 5 night stay at the Discovery Cairns, with a full day to the beautiful World Heritage Listed Rainforest of Daintree and Cape Tribulation, small group trip to the reef, and the famous Kuranda Scenic Train and Skyrail.

Day One: Arrive into Cairns, check into the Discovery Cairns.

The Discovery Cairns offers modern budget accommodation within 500 metres of Cairns City Centre, and only a 5 min stroll to the Cairns Esplanade where you will find many cafes, restaurants, shops the marina and lagoon pool.

This resort style property features classical North Queensland balconies and lush tropical surrounds.

A Standard Double Room is included in the package, however it is possible to upgrade to a Superior, Triple, Family or Self Contained Room, please enquire for rates.

A Licensed Italian Restaurant & Bar is open 7 days offering buffet breakfasts and an extensive Italian Dinner Menu.

There are two large landscaped swimming pools on the complex, one featuring a waterfall and the other suitable for exercise. Adjacent to one of the pools are change rooms with shower.

Day Two: Kuranda Train/Skyrail

The Kuranda Scenic Railway is a spectacular journey offering views of World Heritage Listed rainforest, steep ravines and picturesque waterfalls within the Barron Gorge National Park.

This famous railway winds its way from Cairns to Kuranda. Kuranda Village is a quaint little township in the rainforest, situated where both Skyrail and the Kuranda Scenic Train journeys terminate.

Kuranda Village is famous for arts and crafts and indigenous artifacts and the excellent attractions of the Butterfly Sanctuary, Koala Gardens, Birdworld and the Aviary. The original Kuranda markets are held Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Heritage Markets open daily.

Your return journey is via the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway which spans 7.5kms over pristine rainforest. Gliding just metres above the rainforest canopy in comfortable six-person gondola cabins, the Skyrail journey will immerse you in an intimate rainforest experience. Enjoy the stunning rainforest scenery, panoramic views of the Cairns’ tropical region and the glittering waters of the Coral Sea.

During your Skyrail journey you will have time to explore two on the rainforest mid-stations - Red Peak and Barron Falls, where you can explore the forest floor on boardwalks, view the scenic look-outs and spend time in the state-of-the-art Rainforest Interpretive Centre.

Departs: Cairns from 8:30am
Returns: Either 3:00pm or 5:15pm

Day Three: Passions of Paradise

Passions of Paradise II is the newest sail boat to be launched in Cairns and is an awesome 25 metre sailing vessel that cruises to the Inner and Outer Barrier Reef .

Michaelmas Cay is the first stop. This is a gorgeous little speck of pure coral sand, surrounded by reef and warm shallow water. There are many different species of marine life that inhabit these waters and the cay is also a haven for a variety of marine birds. You will have about 2 1/2 hours to explore and snorkel. A snorkel specialist will assist first time snorkellers and make you feel comfortable.

Breaking Patches at Paradise Reef, is the second destination. For 1 1/2 hours you can snorkel over brilliant staghorn corals, huge plate corals of many different colours, and anemones that sway with the oceans currents. Paradise Reef is ideal for both Introductory and Certified diving.
For those passengers who wish to see the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and not get wet, Passions offers a 30 minute glass bottom tour with a Marine Naturalist ( extra cost).

After all the swimming and diving a huge tropical smorgasbord lunch is served. There's also plenty of time to relax. On the way home with the sails up, relax, chill out, and soak up the atmosphere.

Day Four: Cape Trib Day Trip!

The Cape Trib Connections Day Tour starts with a pick up from your accommodation at approximately 7am. You will head north for the drive to the Daintree on the scenic coastal road. This highway snakes along the shoreline past secluded beaches and rainforest clad mountains with views out over the Coral Sea to the Great Barrier Reef. This is one of the most spectacular drives in Australia.

The first stop will be at the Daintree Mangroves Animal Sanctuary. It will be a brief stop for morning tea and the chance to view Cassowary birds and other native animals up close. From here the tour will cross the Daintree River by ferry and stop at the Alexandra Range Lookout for stunning photo opportunities and a bird's eye view of the coast, followed by a guided walk through the rainforest on the Mardja Boardwalk.

It's time for lunch - at the Beach House, where you can walk onto Cape Tribulation beach. Following lunch the tour will drive on to the Daintree River Cruise Centre where afternoon tea is available before the one hour river cruise. This interesting and informative boat cruise takes you through the domain of the large estuarine crocodile. Egrets wade near mangroves in the murky water of the river where crocodiles wait patiently for a meal.

After the cruise, you will drive south towards Cairns for a stop at Mossman Gorge, where you will be able to swim or go for a walk. The clear mountain river cuts through thick rainforest and tumbles over boulders on its journey to the sea. On the way home the tour will visit the picturesque tourist town of Port Douglas for a quick stop.

It will then stop at the Rex Lookout for a final photo opportunity before arriving back in Cairns after an exciting day, at about 6.30pm.
